Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) :-
Diseases which are transmitted through sexual intercourse are collectively called Sexual Transmitted Diseases (STDs) or Venereal Diseases or Reproductive tract infections.
Examples :- Gonorrhoea, Syphilis, Genitalia warts, AIDS etc.
Name of Sexual Transmitted Diseases, Causes and Symptoms :-
- Trichomoniasis.
Cause – Trichomonas vaginalis (protozoa).
Symptoms – vaginal infection and secretion.
2. Itching.
Cause – Candida albicans (yeast).
Symptoms – Itching in penis and female external genitalia.
3. Gonorrhoea.
Cause – Nisseria gonerrhoea (bacteria).
Symptoms – Infection in female cervix and urethra in male.
4. Syphilis.
Cause – treponema pallidum (bacteria).
Symptoms – pox in external genitalia skin.
5. Chlamydiasis.
Cause – Chlamydia trichomatis (bacteria).
Symptoms – Swelling and infection in fallopian tube, cervix, urethra etc.
6. Herpes.
Cause – Herpes simplex virus – II.
Symptoms – Blisters on the external genitalia.
7. Genital warts.
Cause – Human papilloma virus.
Symptoms – Warts in penis and anus.
8. AIDS.
Cause – HIV (virus).
Symptoms – Infection in WBCs and Immune deficiency.
Diagnosis of Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) :-
These are diagnosing in VDRL (Vnereal Disease Research Laboratory) by the following test –
- Antigen/Antibody test.
- Polymerase chain reaction.
- DNA hybridization.
Prevention of Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) :-
- Avoid sex with unknown partners.
- Always use condoms during coitus.
- In case of doubt, one should go to a qualified doctor for early detection and get complete treatment if diagnosed with diseases.
